Using the class data from our solubility lab complete the following.

Total grams dissolved in 10 mL of water

Salt - 3 g, 2 g, 1.1 g, 2.5 g
Sugar - 3 g, 4 g,

1.  Find the average mass of salt that can be dissolved in 10 mL of water.  Find the average mass of sugar that can be dissolved in 10 mL of water.

2.  Express the solubility of salt in 100 mL of water.  Express the solubility of sugar in 100 mL of water.

3.  How do the solubilities of salt and sugar in water ( calculated in #3) compare to the table below?

4.  Can you suggest reasons why our lab results differed from those in the table?


Salt    35.7 g/100 mL of water

Sugar 179.2 g/100 mL of water
