Humanities
Today we continued our discussion regarding WORLDVIEW. Students extended their understanding of how worldview is affected in terms of Isolation > Contact (Inter-cultural contact) > Change and we watched an excerpt from the movie The Gods Must Be Crazy. Worldview, the elements of and the factors which affect it, is a theme that will flow throughout our entire grade 8 Humanities.
Parents - Students have completed work in their visual journals and will continue to do so often in Hum. Please ask your student about their journals and use it as a way to communicate what they are learning and why.
Also, in preparation for our annual Terry Fox Run on Friday, September 26, students worked within a group to create a graffiti task of words to represent Terry Fox and his legacy. If this was not completed during class time today, it is homework and due for Monday.
Math
For the past week we have been investigating multiplication with integers. Students have been challenged to think about what multiplication means, how they can model it, and practicing computations. On Thursday they were given as assessment that is to be completed and handed in for Monday. A copy of this assessment can be found on D2L.
Science
In science we have been looking at how all matter can be classified as either a pure substance, homogeneous mixture, or a heterogeneous mixture. Student's worked on a lab activity where they had to make detailed observations about 16 substances and decide, based on their observations, weather the substance was a pure substance, a homogeneous mixture, or a heterogeneous mixture. A major component of this lab was providing a logical reason for their choice. This table needs to be completed for Monday.
